I started skiing at the age of 5. I started off with weekend ski lessons and was very interested in the ski racers I noticed at the hill. I ended up joining the Camp Fortune Ski Club in my second year of U10 and have been racing ever since.

One of my favourite ski moments was my training camp at Sun Peaks, and another was competing this past season at the Eastern Championships at Stoneham.

When I am not skiing, I play football competitively. I also enjoy working out and being with my friends and family.

I’ve been skiing for as long as I can remember, although I’ve been told I was in ski boots at nine months old. I started ski racing in the Nancy Greene program at Camp Fortune and went on to compete with the Camp Fortune Ski Club from U10 through U16. I’ve never looked back, and skiing has shaped who I am. But the heart of the sport for me is the community. The friendships with teammates, the connections with other racers, and the support from parents- mine and everyone else’s who have made this journey unforgettable. While I’m always focused on improving and pushing myself, I’m equally motivated by the athletes around me. 

When I’m not at the hill, I am busy doing dryland training, running, swimming, cycling, and spending time with friends and family.

My first ski run was down the driveway at my house when I was two years old, and I haven’t stopped skiing since. I started ski racing at Pakenham when I was 4 years old and joined Calabogie for U10. Skiing has given me opportunities to travel, compete, and have fun with my friends. Some of my favorite memories are powder days at Calabogie with my racing friends and skiing in B.C. with my dad.

In the off-season, I enjoy golfing, playing rugby, and pretending to kayak.

Jackson Smith

Club: Camp Fortune

Hi, I’m Jackson Smith, and skiing has been part of my life from the very beginning. I got my first pair of skis the day I was born! I started skiing around the same time I learned to walk, and I’ve loved being on snow ever since. 

My ski racing journey began in the Nancy Greene program at Camp Fortune Ski Club. While I wasn’t the fastest racer at the start, I’ve always enjoyed pushing myself to be the best I can be, and that drive has led me to where I am today.

When I’m not on the slopes, I like to golf, mountain bike, hydrofoil, play rugby, go to the gym, and spend time with my friends and family. 

Some of my favorite ski memories have come from traveling to camps and races with my teammates. One of the most memorable experiences was attending a ski camp in Sun Peaks, British Columbia. Highlights of my racing career so far include competing at the U16 Provincials in Searchmont and Thunder Bay.

I’m excited to continue developing as an athlete with the National Capital Outaouais (NCO) Ski Team!

Lewis Monkman

My first time on skis was at 15 months old. My father couldn’t wait to get me on skis—I actually skied before I could walk! I joined the Calabogie Ski Racing Club as a U8 athlete and have been racing ever since.

Some of my favourite ski memories include powder days at Mont Chilly and summer skiing at Beartooth Basin with my family. When I’m not skiing, I spend much of my time whitewater kayaking on the Ottawa River. I also enjoy playing basketball and practicing jiu-jitsu.

Oleksii Ufimtsev

Club: Camp Fortune

Oleksii Ufimtsev is a Ukrainian‑Canadian alpine skier with over 10 years of systematic training and experience competing at national and international levels. 

He began skiing in Lviv, Ukraine, training with Avalanche Ski Club and later racing with Penguin Team. Oleksii is a multi‑time regional champion and a medalist at major national events in Ukraine. He has trained across Europe, including Austria, Italy, Poland, Germany, Slovakia, Andorra, Romania, and Lithuania. His early international development also includes time at the School of Sports Mastery Szczyrk in Poland (2022) and periodic training sessions with TuS Holzkirchen in Germany during the 2022–2023 season. One of his most meaningful memories is winning the Ukrainian Children’s Championship in Giant Slalom in 2022 — a day he still remembers as his happiest moment on snow. 

After moving to Canada in 2024, Oleksii continued his development with Camp Fortune Ski Club. In 2025, he received the Mark Elliott Memorial Sportsmanship Award for his attitude, integrity, and commitment to fair play. In 2026, he won the Art Tommy Memorial Speed Camp (U16).

He joined NCO after completing the 2025–2026 season ranked 2nd overall in the National Capital Division (NCD) and representing the division at the AOA O Cup Finals – Thunder Cup. His strong performance at OCUP 2026 earned him qualification for the Eastern National Championships as part of Team Ontario.

Beyond skiing, Oleksii is a downhill mountain biker enthusiast, enjoys swimming and trampoline training, holds a 2nd kyu (brown belt) in Shotokan karate, and plays the guitar. He is multilingual: he speaks English, Ukrainian, and Russian fluently, and has basic knowledge of Polish, German, and French.

Sophie McKittrick

I first started skiing on my third birthday. Despite spending many of my early ski days crying, I eventually fell in love with spending my days outside on the snow. When I was six, I joined SnowStars at Calabogie Peaks, where I had my first experience with ski racing. The following year, I joined the Calabogie Ski Racing Club and raced there until my second year of U16, when I moved to Camp Fortune Ski Club. Some of my favourite ski memories are the camps I’ve attended with my friends.

When I’m not skiing, I’m doing track at the Ottawa Lions Club, playing school sports, or working out at the gym. I also enjoy hiking, reading, and watching movies in my free time.

Tessa MacMillan

Club: Calabogie

I started skiing when I was six years old at Martock in Nova Scotia. At the time, I knew family friends who were part of a race club, and that’s when my interest in ski racing began to grow. The first racing club I was ever part of was Glacier at Mount St. Louis Moonstone in the Toronto area. I later moved to Ottawa, where those same family friends introduced me to the Calabogie Ski Racing Club, and I became part of a big family of people who all shared the same interest. Some of my favourite ski memories are going on camps with my friends and spending time training and improving together.

When I’m not skiing, I enjoy working out, being outdoors, gravel biking, mountain biking, as well as participating in other school sports and hanging out with my friends
